Team Kenya coach petitions government for improved preparations ahead of World Deaf Basketball Championship

Kenya Deaf Basketball Association (KDBA) are through with their trials to select Team Kenya to this year’s World Deaf Basketball Championship set to be held in Heraklion, Greece.

The selectors named 15 members for each of the men and women’s team that are set to begin training latest next month for the global competition set for 13 to 24 June.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport after the two-day selection exercise that saw teams from six counties compete to give the coaching staff a chance to select the best, Kenyan international Hilda Indasi who is one of the coaches called for early preparations.

“We are waiting on the official communication for when the team hits camp and remain hopeful it will be soon as the players need enough time to gel and work on their craft. From the selection tournament held at Ulinzi Complex, we managed to select the best there was for each team but they need some more training to be ready for the level of competition expected in Greece,” Indasi offered.

The tactician has additionally petitioned the government to help the team travel to Greece ahead of time for a chance to play some friendly matches against the elite teams before the extravaganza gets underway.

The women’s competition in Greece has attracted eight countries including the hosts, Italy, Kenya, Lithuania, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine and United States while he men’s competition is set to have double that number.

In addition to Kenya who are the only African team to qualify, other participants include Argentina, Australia, China, Dominican Republic, hosts Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Lebanon, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine, United States and Venezuela.
